The Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance will be hosting an event Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday to help educate students on feminism.

The event, titled "Thank-a-Feminist Week," will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Free Speech Area outside of the University Union.

"While many of the FMLA events are serious, like the [Vagina] Monologues, this event is about educating the campus and having fun," said Samantha Sewell, Allen junior and FMLA president. She said FMLA is a group working to inform the public of feminist issues such as civil rights and women's health.

The organization will be handing out information, including feminist IQ tests and information on celebrity feminists, as well as encouraging students to register to vote. Information regarding March For Women's Lives, a demonstration in Washington, D.C., on April 25, will be available.

There will also be Open Mic on Tuesday, and students will have the opportunity to pose as the face of Rosie the Riveter, the "We Can Do It" poster woman of World War II.

"Thank-a-Feminist Week" was rescheduled from March 8 because organizers wanted the event to be bigger, Sewell said.

Coinciding with FMLA's event is "Thank-a-Woman Day," an event sponsored by the Young Conservatives of Texas, and will also be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday in the Free Speech Area.

The event is not meant to conflict with but rather work as a response to FMLA's event.

"Most women aren't aware of conservative leaders of their gender," said Michelle Connole, Lewisville junior and Young Conservatives of Texas executive.

Strong women leaders are left out of textbooks and FMLA because they share conservative views, said Connole.

The Young Conservatives of Texas will be handing out informational sheets, as well as information on women leaders such as Barbara Bush and Condoleezza Rice.

Students will also be able to sign a thank-you card for Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison.

"It's to get out the idea that conservatives can be feminists too," said Tanar Dial, a member of the Young Conservatives of Texas.
