Prospective Member Requirements

Most of the information you need to know about Gamma Beta Phi membership is listed on this page or somewhere else on our site. You may contact one of the GBP Officers if you have any questions. Below is a quick run down of what new members need to do above and beyond the normal membership requirements:

  • Academic requirements 3.5 GPA
  • Completed 15 hours at UNT
  • Attend one of our first meetings of the semester
  • Submit your membership dues (more detail below)
  • Fill out two information cards (obtain from and return to the VP of Membership)
  • Attend the Induction Ceremony (more details below)
Current Member Requirements

Members are required to participate in Gamma Beta Phi activities in order to remain in good standing. At the beginning of each semester, members obtain a signature packet from the officers. By participating in activities sponsored by Gamma Beta Phi, members will receive signatures from the officers. At the end of the semester, the signature packet is turned in. Any members who do not obtain all of the necessary signatures will be put on probation. Members on probation for two sequential semesters will forfeit their membership rights in Gamma Beta Phi.

Below is a list of the required signatures:

National Dues
New members pay a ONE time national membership fee of $50.00 plus an ANNUAL chapter fee of $10.00. Hence, a grand total of $60.00 (to be paid in the spring semester in which the member is inducted into Gamma Beta Phi).
Credit Signatures
After receiving all of the required signatures, members may obtain up to two additional signatures that will carry over to the next semester.
Fundraising Signatures
Every organization needs money. Therefore, we may from time to time request your participation in a fundraiser.
Meeting Signatures
Since we usually have at least 6 meetings per semester, these are the easiest signatures to get. Our meetings are every other week, and you can choose between Tuesday at 1:00p.m. or Tuesday at 5:30p.m. Gamma Beta Phi meetings are useful for staying informed and for meeting other members.
Other Signatures
Participation in any Gamma Beta Phi event can count as an other signature. Also, other signatures will be offered to help the officers do miscellaneous tasks throughout the semester. Some of these will be posted on the site, but others will be announced last minute in the meetings. Try to use this an opportunity to get involved in the Gamma Beta Phi activities that you really enjoy.
Service Signatures
Gamma Beta Phi is a service organization and therefore our chapter emphasizes serving the UNT, Denton, and North Texas community. Each semester, the majority of activities offered will be service related, so there is never a shortage of opportunity or choice when it comes to serving through Gamma Beta Phi. Past service events include Trick or Treating with Big Brothers and Sisters, playing Bingo with senior citizens at Fairhaven retirement home, and organizing a clothing drive. The clothing drive allowed disadvantage citizens of Carrollton to shop for needed items at no charge. This was one of the biggest events Gamma Beta Phi has done, and it was a HUGE success. We have done various other things as well, including activities for the University. We usually have two or three service opportunities a month, so these signatures are easy to get within the first few weeks of the semester.
Induction Signature
This is a required signature for new members and usually takes place in the spring semester.
Quick Reminder
Since Gamma Beta Phi only inducts new members in the Spring, December graduates are eligible for membership.

I know it may seem overwhelming, but it is not as time consuming as it appears. When you walk across the stage wearing your honor cords and accept your diploma with its Gamma Beta Phi seal, you will know that you have earned your education and that you truly made the best out of your college years! It is our desire to have an active chapter; however, the officers are flexible and understand that everyone is very busy. If the signatures are difficult for you to obtain due to work, class or student teaching schedules, talk to me or the president as special arrangements may be allowed.
