Rocky Horror Picture Show

Come and experience the insanity first hand when the UPC presents the Rocky Horror Picture show, co-sponsored by SWSA, FMLA, and GLAD. In this 1975 classic, a young couple gets stranded outside of a creepy castle with some interesting inhabitants. Audience participation is strongly encouraged.

The event begins with a costume contest on October 25, 2007 at 11:30 pm in the Lyceum, third floor of the union. $5.00 at the door. Participation bags on sale for $2 or free with 2 canned food items. Proceeds go to AIDS Services of North Texas.

Capture a better tomorrow benefit

Join Students for a Future without Poverty for a night of entertainment featuring a film concerning immigration issues, free food, a silent auction with original art and live music! Admission is only $4 with proceeds going to help the needy. SWSA will be attending to show support and so should you! The show will be on April 26th at 7pm in the Syndicate in the UNT Union.

2007 Banquet

The room for the banquet has changed, we will now be in the gold eagle suite.

The UNT Social Work Banquet this year will be:

  • Wednesday April 25 at 7pm
  • At the Gold Eagle the Suite A in the UNT Union
  • Tickets are $10 for Phi Alpha nd SWSA members $12 for non members.

CDC Americorps Summer Internship

CDM AmeriCorps members will serve at various summer programs in the Dallas area targeting low-income and at-risk youth. Members will serve 300 hours over the course of a 10-11 week term, beginning May 31, 2007 and ending mid-August. Members receive a stipend of $1,800 and an end of term education award of $1,000.

The informational flyer and summer application are avaliable on our Yahoo Groups page; this may be filled out electronically and emailed or completed manually and faxed or mailed to AmeriCorps by the application deadline May 12, 2007.

Easter Egg Hunt at the Nelson Center

We will meet up at 2:00 in the Chilton parking lot and head over to the nelson center around 2:15. Come out for an Easter Egg Hunt with the kids!

SWSA Meeting and Officer Elections

Women in Leadership Luncheon

Diana Washington Valdez, considered a foremost expert on the Juarez femicides, Mexican politics, and the drug trade, will be the keynote speaker. This is also where UNT is launching its partnership with the Chiapas Project (the program mentioned above for donating the phones and cartridges to help women in poverty). $10 for students, $15 for public — please contact Marcy Butler TODAY at marcyb@unt.edu for tickets.

Hip Hop: Beyond Beats and Rhymes screening, hosted by MAV

  • Wednesday, March 28, 7-9, Lyceum,… FREE

This groundbreaking documentary takes an in-depth look at representations of manhood, sexism and homophobia in hip-hop culture. The film screening will be followed by a discussion facilitated by Sean Tate of the Austin based Men’s Nonviolence Project. Movie lasts about 1 hour with a discussion after word.
