The Portfolio Management Committee

The Portfolio Management Committee (PMC) is comprised of students with a strong interest in finance and the Capital Markets. With the help of our faculty advisors Jack Furst and Rusty Macdonald, PMC members work together on analysis, research, and evaluation for further investment of the SIG Portfolio. The only requirement to join this committee is to have already taken or plan on taking the (FINA 3770)Foundations of Finance Investments course. This course is offered as an elective so both business and non-business majors can satisfy a required elective.

This committee is ideal for students pursuing a career, or just a better understanding, of financial investments.

About the PMC

The PMC is broken down into two levels: the Senior Analyst level and the Junior Analyst level.

Senior Analysts are students with a strong understanding in finance and who have previously served at least one semester in the PMC. Senior Analysts focus their research on more specific portfolio management strategies, investment valuation, and financial statement analysis. Each Sr. Analyst is paired with a Jr. Analyst team to provide knowledge and experience to the teams investment proposals. Each team presents investment recommendations to the PMC and then to the Executive Committee for voting.

The Junior Analyst level is comprised of first year PMC members and focus on the fundamentals of Stock Market investing and financial valuation. The PMC will have weekly meetings to cover necessary material, but Jr. Analysts are expected to work closely with Sr. Analysts for in depth explanations and directions.

PMC Responsibilites:

  • Assuring the Portfolio complies with SIG constitution.
  • Provide necessary reports each quarter and at the close of each semester.
  • Evaluate and benchmark club performance relative to suitable benchmarks.
  • Research, evaluate, and present prospective investments for voting.
    • Meetings:
    • The PMC will meet every Monday from 5PM to 6:20PM in the business building room 230. Contact the PMC Chair for further details and to get on the email list.

    Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA)

Sr. Analysts Anthony Bassili, Addison Tackaberry, Khaled Mustafa, and Adam Murray have each been awarded the CFA scholarship to take the level I exam in June 2008. The CFA Exam is a self-study, graduate-level program for investment professionals. The three-year program requires you to study for and pass three levels of exams. If you pass the exams and meet other requirements, you earn a CFA charter.

Employers around the world know the value of the CFA charter and they seek out the expertise that comes with it. If you're interested in portfolio management, investment research, advisory services, or investment banking, this may be the right step. Head over to the CFA Institute website for more information.
