BRAINSTORM
- Children have been dissapearing from a small rural town. A cult is suspected. It is your mission to investigate.--- From this meager start, one could introduce a Call of Cthulhu or Vampire or even Werewolf adventure. Possible 'badguys' could include a cult worshipping a wounded black spiral dancer(werewolf), or a small coven of vampires/witches, or perhaps servants of lovecraft's gods
- You happen upon the hulk of a crashed space vessel. In a futuristic setting, like Rifts, the ship should be enormous and bristling with weaponry. In a more modern setting, smaller. Inside, you can find no trace of survivors, just empty decks and abandoned equiptment.. Perhaps this crash was a result of some sort of dimensional gate, and now the ship is inhabited with invisible lurking demons (or some such :-) Setting the mood in this case should be quite easy, as a crashed ship would likely have only emergency lighting, possibly damaged areas which leak smoke and radiation, large flooded sections, perhaps signs of battle inside, such as
- Bad things happen in war, and often to all the wrong people. This is the case in a mission to pacify a target (civilian sympathizers, rebels, revolutionaries, whatever), Your unit is ordered to liquidate a concentration of people who are enemies (very dubious reason). This gives you the chance to weed out the "kill everything" people from the "i'm sort of smart, i mean i graduated 5th grade an all" players.
- fortress rock- I had the idea once (based on an episode of GI Joe believe it or not) that it would be cool to set a base of some sort in a mesa in the deserts of arizona or new mexico. Basically, someone has taken a mesa and made it into a fortree with gun blisters, a hangar, spotlights, and the whole 9 yards. Inside are several levels of barracks, mess halls, training rooms, store rooms, command centers, prisons, etc.
- Biogenesis Cocoon Room- Think HR Geiger.. a sarcophagus looking chamber which provides the person inside with increased longevity.. This was used in an adventure involving a wicked king.
- Dr. Savage - runs guns and weapons (sometimes drugs) into the city. "Best not #$@% with Dr. Savage, he's definately got some shit that'll $#@! you up!" (pardon the colorful quote)
- Mission: Player is hired to kidnapp a young human girl whose father, the player is told, is working on a weapon that could kill every being on the planet in a matter of seconds.. This is of course a lie. The scientist is really working on a Hyperspace Teleportation device. The people who have hired the player want to force him to build them a weapon.
- Encounter: Durakh (or any other character) travels to a planet (or place) and lands in a field. He notices a strangely aesthetic ship (very nice condition, no visible weapons) Minutes later, he hears a rasping sound.. A large furry being/animal looks at him, and circles around him.. Any attacks and it will scurry away into the top of a nearby tree
- Tunnel People - gabbering, filthy creatures. The tunnel people have elongated, mottled heads with no hair or fur. They have small whisker like tendrils sprouting from where a human's nose would be, and large, round, red eyes... They wear simple, stinking rags and carry sticks.. "Ibbl, yll, rlly llib, ibll ibbli koril"
- Guardian - a humanoid, wearing a strange, sealed, spherical chrome-looking helmet and covered otherwise with a skin tight black rubber-ish material. The guardian will say nothing, and carries some sort of vibro pike, which it uses to great effect. One note though, the guardian will soemtimes be seen wearing a loose flowing shimmering cloak over his body suit.
- Racoon men (or at least that's what they resemble.. They live in tree houses and are peaceful, vegetarians..
- Large supervillain style ship- essentially the shape is of a skull with a large, head. The bottom and 'cheekbones' are large thrusters, gravitic or repulsor. The head, above the eyes is a large, transparent geodesic dome (epcot center, soccerball). Inside are laboratories and bizarre sights of all kind
- A lithe assassin - She is sleek and beautiful.. She wears head to toe black, with a sort of flat turban hat..Tight, padded sandles with straps, a dagger at her waist and a Scimitar in a scabbard on her back. There is a strip of cloth that hangs loose across her rifht shoulder which, when folded over, becomes a mask that leaves only her dark eyes showing... she has a small tattoo of a star or cross on her left cheek.
