OVERVIEW

Ninja Scroll is the movie that managed to usurp Fist of the North Star as Most Violent Anime. That is quite a feat, and all due to it's realism and beautiful animation. Ninja Scroll's story is quite good as well. It is about a vagabond ninja name Jubei who is 'hired' to help defeat the Eight Devils of Kimon, who have been hired by the exiled members of the Toyotomi clan to help them overthrow the Tokugawa shogunate. Jubei is accompanied by a female ninja name Kogero, who poisons anyone she touches, and Dakuwan, a strange old man who I believe to be the shogun of the dark.

While the three heroes are great, the film wouldn't be as great as it is without the wonderful villains. Jubei first encounters Tessai, an enormous man who can turn his body to rock and hurls a mighty spinning blade with devilish accuracy. Other devils include Yurimaru, the master of electricity and homosexuality; Benisato, the sexy snake woman; Zakuro, who controls rodents and can make her enemies explode; Shijima, who can move through the shadows, create illusory multiples of himself, and has a mechanical claw which he can propel long distances. There is also Mushizo, who controls wasps and has one of the best fight scenes in the movie in my never to be humble opinion, and Mujuru the blind swordmaster

One amazing point about this movie is that the female protagonist Kagero, almost makes it into the prestigious Section 6 "I'm not a bimbo" club. The only thing that keeps her out is a fainting spell and her breakdown at the movie's end.. Oh well.

Some neat things about this movie are the various powers of the devil ninja, and the shocking amount of abuse that Jubei can withstand without ever ..well, dying.

Kevin Ninja Scroll is definately one of my favorites. When I first saw it, I was pleasantly shocked by the sex and violence and quality of this film. It was just plain cool. Unfortunately, like many anime titles, this one features another high-bimbo, kagero. She was cool and all, but I was dissapointed to see her break down at the end and act stupidly. Oh well, other than that, this is an incredible movie
