Tradition of Excellence

Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity, International is a professional service organization composed of pre-law students, law students, legal educators, attorneys, judges, and government officials. Phi Alpha Delta was founded in 1902 for the purpose of promoting professional competency and achievement within the legal profession. It is also the first law fraternity to admit women.

Since the beginning, Phi Alpha Delta (PAD) has experienced astounding growth and today is the world’s largest law fraternity with over 200 pre-law chapters, 183 law school chapters and 95 alumni chapters in the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico and Mexico.

PAD is the first and only law fraternity to recognize the needs of pre-law students and develop a program to help them as they pursue a career in the law.

In addition, PAD is the first and only law fraternity to sponsor an Annual International Conference and a Mock Trial Competition specifically addressing the needs of pre-law students.

PAD is the only law fraternity to receive federal funding from the U.S. Department of Justice for its Law Related Education program and the first law fraternity to enter the information superhighway. The PAD Listserve provides a forum for pre-law students to discuss legal topics, programming ideas and chapter events.

Benefits of Membership

Most importantly, PAD provides networking opportunities with current pre-law students, educators, attorneys, and judges. "Sometimes it's not what you know, but who you know." PAD provides you with a countless number of inside contacts to help you advance in the law profession. A fraternity such as PAD is a great way to learn about new employment and internship opportunities as well.

PAD allows members to easily access valuable information on law-related events occurring in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. PAD hosts guest speakers from accredited law schools in small group meetings so your decision about law school will be informed, responsible, and personal.

Membership in PAD at UNT is a sound base for membership at your future law school. The Senior Transition Program provides PAD students personal contacts at law schools across the nation. Law schools look for extracurricular activities, and PAD is a rewarding and exciting group that allows pre-law students to be more involved on campus and make a significant contribution to to their undergraduate university.
