- What is Model United Nations
(MUN)? - Model United Nations is a simulation
of the real United Nations. School teams are assigned to different
countries with students serving on different UN committees.
After extensive research on their country and its policies toward
specific topics, students represent their country and work within
their respective committees to formulate resolutions on the
committee topics. Students also learn about United Nations procedure
and the balance of maintaining a country's policy and interests,
while being able to work with other countries in order to further
the work of the committee.
In all, Model United Nations
is a program that expands a student's knowledge of the world
and gives them a chance to experience politics and international
affairs from many different perspectives. Students learn valuable
skills in Model UN such as public speaking, negotiation, leadership,
research, and analytical thinking.
An excellent source
on the Model United Nations program is the UNA-USA website.
Check out their
Model UN
101 page. The
Model
United Nations at Richland College site also had a very
informative video titled "Model United Nations For Everyone,"
which sadly no longer works. Also,
you may find the Delegate
Handbook compiled by UNT a useful resource. The
Parliamentary Procedure
Short Form is also something that may be of use
to you in committee. One other
