Business:

1. Personal introductions were given by all those in attendance, and pizza was served.

2. Additional committees have been formed, so there is a need for more students to volunteer for committees. Interested students should mail Sarah Nelson (sen0027@unt.edu) to sign up. She will post information about the committees in the SLIS village.

3. Kroger Share Cards are available. People may have these cards scanned at Texas and Lousiana Kroger stores, and a percentage of purchases goes to support SLIS/LISSA.

4. LISSA totebags are in the process of being updated because the eagle logo and color have changed. Designs will be displayed so students may vote on a favorite. These bags are used for fundraising and are sold at Web institutes.

5. Students were asked to contribute fundraising ideas. They may email LISSA officers with ideas. Suggestions included having an online auction and seeking corporate sponsorship.

6. The Fall 2006 All School Day was discussed. Its purpose is to bring together all students of UNT's library schools to attend lectures of interest within the library and information science field. Tentative dates are November 4 or 11. Volunteers are needed to help prepare for the event and to set up the day of the event. Help is needed with shopping, designing programs, advertising, setting up furniture, directing speakers, and more. A place to sign-up for positions will be provided in the SLIS village. Resume preparation/job searching skills is the most preferred topic for the day. Students should suggest speakers of interest. Suggestions currently include someone from the UNT career center specializing in libraries, someone from Library Associates temp agency, Dr. Levy who has previously spoken at TWU about metadata, and Dr. Farcus. Students who work in libraries are encouraged to ask their bosses to speak about gaining employment in a library setting.

7. Students should offer suggestions for libraries they would like LISSA to tour. These library visits could be in locations that allow distance students to attend.

8. Dr. Ana Cleveland spoke about Houston's LISSA. Houston's LISSA is planning a field trip to Denton.

9. The LISSA chat for those who could not attend the face-to-face meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, October 3, 2006 at 8:30 pm.

10. People may now register online for the TLA District 5 fall meeting that will be held Saturday, September 23 from 9-2 pm at Dallas's J. Erik Jonsson Central Library or the District 7 meeting that will be held Saturday, November 4 from 10-5pm at the Amon Carter Museum in Fort Worth.

11. Meeting attendees were asked if they had any questions. Topics brought up included: how to keep in touch with LISSA, the status of the SLIS Web site's design, a possible private discussion forum limited to students only, and the importance for SLIS to keep students informed of what is going on with the school.

12. Dr. Ana Cleveland mentioned the possibility of selecting up to 5 students to represent LISSA at the dinner for IMLS fellows.

The meeting was adjourned at 6:20 pm.
