- and Taxation.
It has been one year for me at UNT. The most wonderful experience while
studying accounting at UNT was the meeting with the very friendly teachers.
And another thing is that they have lots of funds to give away to students
as scholarships. Because the UNT is located very close to Dallas in which
there are many large companies, we may get great job offers after graduating.
Also, the Accounting Department offers many internship programs during
semester.

Communication Art
For those of you who are interested in being an art major should most
definitely consider Communication Design as one of their choice.
UNT offers many methods to help Communication Design majors achieve their
goals.
Throughout the semesters, Communication Design majors not only broaden
their creative minds but they will also gain responsibilities required
after graduation. Communication Design is for students who have
creative mind and love to visually communicate their mind.

Communication Design
In "Introduction to Communication Design," I have learned
that the average American sees four hundred advertisements everyday.
Out of
the four hundred advertisements seen each day, how many of them will
remain in our memory at the end of the day? There is no doubt that
advertising
could change our life each day.
When I was in Korea, I participated in the Red Cross Association,
and tried to make differences by visiting orphanages house regularly
helping
children
out, visiting nursing homes once in a while for old and abandoned
people, and selling artwork to raise money for donations.
While I was
in Korea,
I studied Industrial Design at Induk Industrial college. Since
I came to America, I have been confused as to whether I should change
my major
or
not. Industrial Design was a very interesting field also, but
the Industrial Age is over. Designing sharp looking car might be fun, but
a charming
looking car without a consumer would be useless.
With all the
new
technologies available, customers need problem-solving designers
instead of just car
designers or fashion designers. It has been seven years since
I left my
country to marry my husband Derek and I have decided to go
back to school. While he was in school for five and half years, I worked
instead
of going
to school because of financial reasons.
Now I am a sophomore
in the
Communication Design program with good grades. I can’t keep a
job and go to school because
of the difficulty imposed by my non-English language. In order
to keep up with American students, I have to study two or three times
harder
or longer. There was a time, which I had to decide between
either bad grade
with a refrigerator full of food, or good grades with financial
problems.
However, I don’t regret quitting my old job because I know for
sure that after a couple of years, I will be a Communication Designer
who
makes
advertisements that stand out amongst the four hundred
advertisements we see each day.

Music (Organ, Vocal, & Jazz)
Organ
There are three professors who have very different backgrounds
so you can lern not only very specific one but also various
genre, period,
and
area and they are pretty generous and willing to help international
students.
We have about 7 organ which is for practicing and
having recital, and going
to get quite an awesome one. Scholarship audition is available
in every spring semester so that you can get real cheap one
than normal
tuition,
only if you get over it
(Eun-Ha chang, Graduate)
Vocal
One and half years ago, I came to the United States to study
my major, voice. I had to take several auditions to enter a great
music school
such as, Indiana music school, New England conservatory, and
the
University of North Texas.
After I passed all of music schools, I spent much of the time
deciding school that would be appropriate for me. The UNT college
of music
I decided
to study is one of the most famous music schools in the United
States.
The UNT offers a lot of opportunities, great faculties
and five building
including more than 300 practice rooms, five performance halls
and numerous rehearsal halls. The most important reason that
I decided to study in UNT
is my instructor's teaching in voice. I am sure that not only
will her experiences lead me a great singer, but also curriculum
in UNT
will help
me achieve my performance in the future.
If your major, in vocal, and you hesitate to enter any of schools,
I want to actively recommend this university, UNT.

Jazz
University of North Texas's jazz studies program in the college
of music is widely regarded as not only the largest studying
college jazz
program in the world, but also the most respected since it was
established in 1947. The North Texas jazz program retains its role as the
leading
jazz
education
program. America's Best Graduate Schools, published annually
by
U.S. News and World Report magazine since 1987, began ranking
graduate jazz
programs
in 1994 and the UNT jazz studies program has been ranked
No.1 every year.
As a jazz studies major, you will take courses in
jazz harmony
and scales;
the singing, dictation, and transcription of jazz chords,
melodies and rhythms; jazz keyboard skills, arranging; improvisation; contemporary
jazz
composition and recordings; the history of jazz; and the
role
of jazz in radio, television and film. If you play an instrument,
you must
enroll
in one of the jazz studies program's nine lab bands for six
semesters and
in another student performing group for two semesters. Regardless
of your emphasis, the lab bands are each open to 20 students.
Especially,
the One
o'clock lab band has established an international reputation
for its
world tours and recordings. Two of the band's recordings were
nominated for Grammy
Awards on the category of best large jazz ensemble.
If you are a vocal jazz student, you must enroll in the UNT
jazz singers for two semesters. Members of the jazz study faculty
are dedicated
teachers as well as nationally and internationally known performers.
Absolutely, UNT is the greatest jazz school in the nation.

Political Science
Political science is a science. It is neither pseudo nor quasi
science. It is a true social science in which we are seeking
for causal
relationships among socioplitical and sometimes econopolitical
events. As far as we define "SCIENCE" as a human intellectual
activity to seek out objective knowledge about all phenomena,
we, political
scientists, are scientists.
In the program of political science department at UNT, all
degree seekers need to be familiar with juggling THEORY, LOGIC,
and METHODOLOGY,
which
is the trinity in positivistic traditions as a whole.
Political scientists are supposed to set their own THEORIES
about political affairs based on LOGICAL CONSISTENCY, and then
test the
THEORIES with
statistical METHODS. This is a major difference between a
Korean tradition of politics
and an American tradition of political science.
Political science department offers interesting minor subfields
such as Comparative Politics, International Relations, American
Politics, Methodology,
Political Theory (Philosopy), and Public Law. And each
subfield includes various interesting research topics.
These are the main ideas about what is the ongoing mission
of the political scientists. Anyone who is interested in empirical
studies
can join and
experience true political science here in UNT.
General information for admission is available in official
web page (http://www.psci.unt.edu) of political science department.
In
addition to official information,
foreign students who need financial aids from the school
are required
600 or more
and 1,200 or more scores in TOEFL and GRE, respectively.
Of course, GPA is supposed to be 3.5 or higher in 4.0 scale.
These are
personal
information
from political science students.

Therapeutic Recreation
You might know about music therapy or art therapy: however,
therapeutic recreation is really unfamiliar part. Therapeutic
recreation
refers to the specialized application of recreation and
experiential activities or
interventions that assist in maintaining or improving
the health status, functional capacities, and ultimately the
quality
of life of persons
with special needs.
This process is not limited to
certain categories
of individuals
or a particular setting. TR is applicable to all individuals
whose needs and goals would seem to benefit from such
an intervention in whatever setting
they find themselves. TR also helps to prevent maladaptive
behaviors with all recreation activities.
