KKI FAQ'S
Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I know you are in Denton TX, But where's Denton?
A: Denton is located about 38 miles northwest of Dallas TX. It is also about a two hour drive from Oklahoma City.

Q: Are you Sweethearts or not?
A: Not. Sweethearts are an auxilliary organization of Kappa Alpha Psi. Our chapter and the others like it are independent organization with our own constitution that does not bind us to any other organization.

Q: If you are not Sweethearts why do I see pictures of you throwing their sign?
A: KKI was started by Sweethearts at Prarie View A&M in 1983. Our history is Sweetheart history therefore our signs are the same.

Q: Why was KKI founded?
A: The forming of KKI was not a snub at either Sweethearts from other places or the members of Kappa Alpha Psi. The young women that founded KKI did so to ensure the continued exsistence of their organization while the chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi was not active at Prarie Veiw A&M.

Q: So do you think that you are better than Sweethearts?
A: Not at all. We consider Sweethearts sisters because of our shared history. When I say Sweethearts I am refering to Diamonds, Kittens and etc. The structure and form of our organizations are somewhat different and so is our relationship to the member s of Kappa Alpha Psi.

Q: What is your relationship with Kappa Alpha Psi?
A: Whe consider the members of Kappa Alpha Psi brothers in the same way that Deltas and Omegas or AKA's and Alpha's claim each other. There is no formal relationship.

Q: How did you form your chapter?
A: Our chapter was formed by two transfer KKI's. There has not been Sweethearts in Denton since 1991. I think that we are the first KKI chapter that did not come directly from a Sweetheart chapter.

Q: How many KKI chapters are there?
A: There are KKI chapters at Prairie View A&M, Paul Quinn College, Sam Houston State University, Southwest Texas State University and Texas Southern University.

Q: Are there anymore KKI chapters on the internet?
A: Not at the moment. We do know that the Prarie View A&M chapter is working on one.

Q: How do I get someones e-mail address?
A: Every member that has an e-mail address that they want published has it listed on their page.

Q: Do you think of your organization as a sorority? --From Kristin D Perkins
A: Websters's New World Dictionary defines sorority as "a group of women or girls joined together for fellowship, etc., as in some colleges." The way the word is defined all organizations of women are sororities. That could include MADD, Girlscouts, women's church organizations etc. By pure definition we would be. However I am going to go out on a limb and say that is not what the question was about. If you want to know if we consider ourselves greek, that answer is no.

Q: I was reading questions about KKI and I was bothered by the statement that you girls do not consider yourselves sweethearts. I do not understand how you all operate. I was always taught that Kappas created Diamonds. How do you consider yourself a part of the family if you are not a Sweet? I do understand that in order to preserve your right to function as a chartered organization you must distinguish a difference. My Diamonds are chartered under PGI. But this is to remain legitimate. Is this your reason also? PGI works in conjunction with Kappa not against it.--From Diamond_11
A: I am sorry that you are bothered by that statement, but we do consider Sweethears sisters. But unlike Sweethears, Diamonds, PGI etc, KKIs (Krimson Kourts--Not Kappa Kourts) are organized on their own, not by KA Psi. We are part of of the family because we choose to be and the Brothers choose us. Either party could break it off at any time, the difference is, that where if that happend to sweethearts that organization would die out. Kourts will survive on their own.
Being a Kourt is not simply about a name change, it is about accepting responsiblity for your own organization, it is about accepting a responsibilty to your school and the community that you are in. It is not easy either, we are faced with the same sterotypes Sweethearts are faced with, but without the benefit of being Sweets. For instance that same statement that bothers you, bothers a lot of Brother so they don't accept us a sisters. But we can't change who we are, and we won't change. The brothers who want to work with us or kick it with us can, those don't, won't and don't have to. But KKI goes on.
We don't work against Nupes, but we don't work for them either. I would say the majority of the things we do are with the Brothers but that is not our only function.
Please don't misunderstand that anything that I have written means that we love Sweets any less that we do other KKIs, but even by your own definition we are not Sweets.
