Discussion Groups

Discussion Groups (or DG's for short) meet every week to discuss important issues and provide an opportunity for students to discuss and reason about things that they might not be able to talk about in other settings.  Issues, such as love & marraige, abortion, drugs, religions, etc, are discussed, and the result is that people gain understanding and form beliefs on issues as they make friends and build trust with others.  Although it is mentioned from the start that the moderators of the DG's are from elcf, the moderators are there to simply open up the discussions, keep the flow going and provide equal opportunity for all to express their thoughts.  In fact, it is likely that a moderator will not participate in a discussion even when asked what their opinion is, unless it would really open up conversation.  Usually the moderators will provide refreshments and sometimes pizza or some other food.

Being led by a Christian organization, DG's are open for all.  The hope is that some participants will desire to talk with the moderators outside of DG's about why a moderator takes a particular stance on a subject and want to hear more about it (especially about faith, validity of the Bible, who Jesus is, what Jesus did, eternal life, as well as any other issues related to spiritual, mental and physical health).  These talks are never forced, but instead the moderator commits to being available to answer questions whenever approached, outside of the DG time.
