Conference Program:

Dear Colleagues,

I look forward to welcoming all of you to the University of North Texas for the 2009 Phi Alpha Theta Regional Conference of the North Central and Northeast Texas region on Saturday, April 4. A link to the draft program can be found below. Please check to make sure that your name, institutional affiliation, and paper title are correct. Please let Dr. Denis Paz (dpaz@unt.edu) and me know as soon as possible if you need to make changes.

All lecture halls and classrooms are equipped with PC computers, projectors, and live Internet connections. I recommend that you bring a flash drive, rather than a laptop, if you are planning to include slides as part of your presentation.

Directions to Discovery Park, parking maps, and site maps are attached to this email, and are available at http://orgs.unt.edu/history/. Please keep in mind that it is Samsung 500 Weekend at the Texas Motor Speedway, so plan accordingly for greatly increased traffic levels on I-35W south of Denton as well as I-35 near Denton.

Feel free to contact me at any time if you have questions about registration or local arrangements.

Best wishes,
Derek N. Boetcher
President, Alpha Lambda chapter of Phi Alpha Theta
University of North Texas

Call for Papers: A call for papers for the 2009 Phi Alpha Theta - North & Central Texas Region Conference annual meeting on April 4, 2009, in Denton, Texas, is now being issued. The meeting will be held in Discovery Park, the University of North Texas, in Denton, Texas.

We solicit proposals for panels on any historical topic or period, and we welcome participation by historians, literary critics, economists, sociologists, art historians, and scholars in other allied disciplines. Graduate and undergraduate students are encouraged to submit proposals to the faculty advisor of the Alpha Lambda chapter of Phi Alpha Theta. It is not necessary to be a member of Phi Alpha Theta to submit a paper proposal for this conference.

Proposals for entire panels on a given theme will be given priority, although individual paper proposals will also be considered if several of them can be assembled to create a viable panel.

Proposals for individual papers should include name and contact information, as well as the paper abstract and brief C.V.

Proposals for panels should include: a list containing paper titles, names and contact information for each panelist; a statement of the overall purpose and goals of the panel; a 200-300 word abstract for each paper to be read; and a one or two page C.V. for each participant.

For further information about Phi Alpha Theta, go to: http://www.phialphatheta.org/. Review by the Conference Program Committee and selection of proposals will begin on March 1, 2009. Later submissions may be considered until the program is completed.

Please mail your proposals to:
