Meeting

July 6, 2004

At the China 1 Wok

Six people attended this month’s meeting. Some of the items discussed were as follows:

  1. BOOK SALE
    1. The Summer Book Sale for the Feral Cat Rescue Group is scheduled for next Thursday, July 15th in the Union Courtyard.
    2. We need volunteers for the day before from 5-6 p.m. to load boxes in Dallas Newell’s car.
    3. We also need volunteers on the day of the sale from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. to set up the tables and put out the books, and we will need a cashier from 9:30 a.m.– 3:00 p.m. and other volunteers during the day to help keep the books straight.
    4. We need volunteers from 3-4:30 p.m. to pack up.
Will you please let Dallas know when you could be available to help out? Nancy Viens will send out an e-mail to the Library staff asking if any of them would be willing to help either at those times or during the day to help keep the books straightened and to put out books when there is extra room on the tables.
We also could use more books for the sale, so Nancy will send out an e-mail to the Library thanking those who have already contributed and asking for more donations.
  2. GARAGE SALE
    1. No date has been set yet for the garage sale. If you have donations of usable items in good condition, please contact Nancy Kelly at Kelly@art.sch.unt.edu. We have storage space available so let us know what you have to contribute.
  3. FALL SILENT AUCTION
    1. It was suggested that we hold the Fall Silent Auction the first week of November, as it is just after payday but not too close to the upcoming holidays. This might be a good time, also, for people to start thinking about buying gifts, etc. Dallas suggested that we need to start asking for donations around mid-August.
  4. CAMPUS NEUTER PROGRAM
    1. The Feral Cat Rescue Group needs to publicize our Campus Spay/Neuter Program in order to fulfill our pledge to the PetSmart people and use up the grant, as well as to let other people know that this service is available at UNT. Dallas talked about sending an ad in to the Record Chronicle for this purpose. We have an ongoing ad running in the UNT Daily. She is also working on updating our Web site. We talked about expanding this service to TWU, as it is a “sister university.”
    2. Nancy Viens said she would work on a flyer for the Campus Spay/Neuter program to be distributed around campus.
  5. MORE FOSTERS
    1. We really need more people to volunteer to be fosters. There has been a bumper crop of kittens this year! Everyone seems to be really busy this summer, but if you know anyone who might be willing to help out on a temporary basis, please let us know.
It would be very helpful for our book sale, auction, and garage sale for us to have a cash register. Dallas has looked at some at Office Max, and the ones we are interested in range from around $99 -- $200 in price. This seems like a good investment so please let us know how you feel about it.

Next meeting will be August 3rd at 5:15 at the China 1 Wok.

Nancy Viens
