Orientation Meeting

June 1, 2004

Five people attended this month’s meeting at the China 1 Wok. We discussed several important issues concerning upcoming events, including:

  1. Garage Sale: Planning to hold a garage sale in June was not feasible, as several key members had previous commitments and besides there was not a lot of time to ask for and price donations. We had a lively discussion concerning holding a garage sale in July, and the 10th or the 17th were suggested, but that is too close to the time of the Summer Book Sale. The last weekend in June is out because of regular registration (June 29—July 1) and late registration is July 2-5. However, we pretty much agreed that that particular time in July tends to be extremely hot and that might not be too good a time to hold it, anyway. We also discussed having it in September, after the registration brouhaha was over, and everyone seemed to agree that that was probably the most practical. However, this whole issue is open for discussion and we would like input. Please contact either Dallas Newell or myself with your opinion.
  2. A Bookcase for Chuck: Janet Feagans has a bookcase for Chuck Norton (he plans on organizing the books for the next Book Sale in July), and Deniece Taylor said that she has a truck that we could use to deliver it in. She is in the process of moving right now to another apartment. Hopefully, this can be taken care of soon Nancy Kelly will e-mail Dallas Newell about this project).
  3. E-mails about the Book Sale: These should go out this week, requesting donations for our Summer Book Sale in July.
  4. National Feral Cat Day: (Nancy Kelly) October 16, 2004 is National Feral Cat Day, and we would like to have a table in the Union courtyard for the Feral Cat Rescue Group. It would be a good time to hand out flyers for our group, as well as handing out spay/neuter materials. We would need to get out publicity for this, such as press releases to the papers, wearing our FCRG T-shirts, or fixing up a little bag of cat treats etc. to be handed out to people along with some of our cat jewelry from AHIMSA.
  5. Volunteer Fair Day: (Deniece Taylor) Volunteer Fair Day is September 22nd. She would like suggestions, but said that they want $25 to register for that and that this cost may be exorbitant. She said that she did not think we should spend that much, as it was not very well attended before and might not be worth the work we put into it (not to mention the $25).
  6. Trapping: (Just a question for Dallas here—are we trapping yet? Have we started? Who has been helping with it, and do you need volunteers? Should I send out e-mails?)
  7. Homecoming: The suggestion was made that we might consider a float for Homecoming (in October???). However, that may coincide with our Fall Book Sale, so we need to get more input on this.
  8. Spay/Neuter money: We need to generate more spay/neuter projects, so as to be able to use up the money we got from PetSmart for this purpose. Our group ought to consider more publicity for this project, including clever posters, notices in the UNT Daily, etc. We welcome suggestions as to how to do this!!!

Yours for non-procreative, happy cats
