Meeting

March 2, 2004

The Feral Cat Rescue Group met last Tuesday at the China 1 Wok (on Scripture and Jago Streets). Seven people attended the meeting. Following items were discussed:

  1. The Feral Cat Rescue Group will hold the Spring Book Sale on Friday, April 23rd. Please donate books, tapes, CD’s and DVD’s as soon as possible. You can bring your items to Chuck Norton’s patio (call 381-9132 for directions), or to Dallas Newell’s office 202 in the Eagle Student Services Center.
April 23rd is Shakespeare’s birthday, so works by or about the Bard or classic works of literature are especially welcome. AND the 23rd is the day after Earth Day!!! SO anything having to do with environmentalism or the natural world would be good. But we will be thrilled to get anything you want to donate, on any subject in any genre, so please be generous.
We are looking for volunteers for the Spring Book Sale from 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. We also will need some strong people the evening before from 5 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. at Chuck Norton’s apartment to load up the books, and then Friday at 7:30 a.m. to unload them at the Student Union. He lives just one block off of campus. Here is also a need for people to volunteer for 1-2 hours or more to cashier during the day or to put the books out on the tables. An e-mail will go out for these helpers closer to the time of the sale.
  2.   We would ALSO like people to volunteer to help deliver pictures of Chip, our K-9 police dog, on campus. Please let Nancy Viens or Dallas Newell know if you can help with this.
  3. The UNT Feral Cat Rescue Group has received a grant from PetSmart for $4,500 to help with the spay/neuter program on campus. The only stipulation will be that it has to be used up within a year and the funds are to be used ONLY for spay\neuter. This does not appear to be a problem! Discussion arose concerning other grant applications for next year.
  4. The next meeting of the FCRG will be held on April 6th at 5:15 p.m. at the China 1 Wok. Further plans for the Book Sale will be discussed. If there are any agenda items you would like to suggest, please send them to Nancy Viens at nviens@library.unt.edu or to Dallas Newell @ dnewell@unt.edu.
