Meeting

March 5, 2002

ATTENDANCE: Dallas Newell, Valleri Bond, Jerry Fackler, Deniece Taylor, Gail Phillips, Chuck Norton, Nancy Viens, Cori Levitsky, and Lucy Giles.

  1. The ad in the NT Daily started 3/6/02, and reads as follows: "Litter Free at UNT. NEW Campus Neuter Program. UNT Feral Cat Rescue Group and Campus Cat Coalition is sponsoring one-of-a-kind program to currently enrolled UNT students. Be a responsible pet owner. Spay or neuter your pet for only $15. To learn more: http://orgs.unt.edu/feralcat This ad applies to all students currently enrolled.
  2. The UNT FERAL CAT Table in the Student Union will be open Wednesdays from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. starting Wednesday March 13th. We have several volunteers, but we still need people to sign up for the table. Dallas stressed how important this has been for getting out publicity for our group and a way to educate the students about responsible pet care.
  3. The Jazz Fest: We will have a booth at the Jazz Fest April 26, 27, and 28. Hours are: April 26th, 3-10 pm; April 27th, 9:30-10 pm; and April 28th, 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Volunteers are needed and you can contact 940-565-0280 to sign up.
  4. Booksale Wed. April 17th from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Union Courtyard. We need donations, which can be brought to Nancy Viens, Room 155 of Willis Library. Popular novels, paperbacks in good condition are probably the best sellers. We do not need LP records, textbooks over one year old, computer books, or books which are water damaged or mildewed. Chuck Norton suggested that we look into printing up some bookmarks to be given away at the booksale. We have some AHIMSA tote bags as well as a large donation of stationery to be sold.
  5. Fry Street Fair: (4/20/02) A suggestion was made that we might be able to set up a booth on the UNT lawn in front of the Language Building instead of holding it inside the Fair area. We would need to get UNT permission as well as supply our own tables and chairs. We do have a new canopy to use at these events.
  6. Garage Sale: This will be held the last Friday of Spring Break (March 22nd) at Dallas Newell’s house. We have several sale items already. Usable items, no clothes please. Prefer items that might sell for over a dollar.
  7. Tablecloth for the Union Table, etc.: Deniece Taylor has volunteered to make us a large tablecloth that has our name on it to use at our events. Also, Chuck will look into getting a vinyl banner to hang in the Student Union. This will be something we can use for all our events, with space for identifying individual programs.
  8. Other events planned are as follows: Car wash in late May: Denton PetCo; Dog wash in late June: Denton PetCo. Please call 940-565-0280 to volunteer.

Thanks to all of you who attended the meeting, as well as all of our members who help out in whatever way you can and keep our group so successful! Our NEXT MEETING will be April 2nd at 5:15 p.m. in the Eagle Student Services Center 1st floor lobby. We look forward to seeing you there!
