Meeting

February 5, 2002

Attendance: Eleven people attended this meeting.

Agenda:

  1. Spring Book Sale: This will be held sometime the end of March. Dallas Newell will reserve the Union space. Deniece Taylor volunteered to call Recycled Books to see about possible donations (these will need a critical eye to be sure that we only accept books that we know are saleable.) [Update: Recycled Books declined to donate books. They only donate to out-of-town charities, to avoid buying back their own donations.] We need to emphasize that we can only accept books that are not water damaged, mildewed, or in poor condition, also no computer books older than [1999] three years, no textbooks, no magazines, and no LP vinyl records. We would LOVE to have: popular fiction or interesting non-fiction, music CDs, movie videos or DVDs, and childrens’ books in good condition. People who have volunteered to accept donations, store these books are: N. Viens, Willis Library, Room 155. Betty Monterroso will sort and price them. She can also store them at least until they are priced & sorted. We will not have pick-up service this year, but will instead ask volunteers to provide drop-off locations around campus.
  2. New UNT Neuter program: (Chuck Norton suggested the name “Campus Neuter Program”): This program offers neuter/spay and rabies shots only, and will be offered to UNT students only at the price of $15 per pet. People can pay by cash or credit card. We will ask for volunteers for this program by e-mail, and it will be advertised in the NT Daily. Betty Monterroso will cut and paste the e-mails and send them to Cari Geer, who will verify the enrollment. People will be put on a waiting list (Kristen Caletka will set the waiting list up, with pregnant animals or animals in heat to be given priority.) She will send the list to Dallas, who will prepare the certificates. Students will pick these up at Cori Levitsky’s house and then take them to one of two specified veterinarians.
  3. Jazz Fest Booth: We will need volunteers for this event for Friday evening, and Saturday from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm, and also for Sunday. This will be held this year from April 26-28th (Chamber of Commerce.) There will be a display plus items for sale such as T-shirts, jewelry, etc.
  4. Student Union Information Table: Lucy Giles will register this for the Campus Cat Coalition. We will need volunteers for one hour a week, and we will hold this on Wednesdays from 10 am to 1 pm. There will be T-shirts and other FCRG items for sale, and we will have a display of flyers, signup sheets, and photos as we have done in previous years.
  5. Spring Dog Wash: Petco needs to have one publicity event every week at their store and have asked us to participate as often as possible, so we will try to have a car wash in the end of May and a dog wash in June.
  6. Freshman Orientation: Betty Monterroso suggested we have a presentation at orientation, and it was decided that we can at least put a brochure in all the Freshman Orientation packets. We will set this as a goal for next fall.
  7. Condo at Petco: Erin Moran has volunteered to help out with maintaining this cat condo at Petco. We will need one more person to check on the cats once during the week and Gail Phillips volunteered. Betty Monterroso suggested that we notify the manager that someone else will be coming to help out, so they will know who she is.

It was a very productive meeting. The enthusiasm was encouraging. It’s a great group! Thanks to all who attended, and to everyone else who may not have been able to be here but who help out in many other ways, too innumerable to mention!
