UNT Crescent ColonyFrequently Asked Questions (FAQ) | |
|
What is UNT Crescent Colony? We are UNT's newest men's greek letter fraternity. Being new means there are several opportunities and few limitations. What can UNT Crescent Colony offer me? Our mission at UNT Crescent Colony is to provide leadership and support for the evolvement of the individual, the Fraternity, and the community. Self-development We are a uniquely diverse group of men; diverse in cultures, interests, majors, talents, and abilities. Each man brings in something his own to develop the group. We have men from all ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds which helps promote understanding of those different from ourselves. We have music, art, business, and liberal arts majors, making it evident what each man brings to the group, the abilty to help fellow brothers in any number of courses and assignments. UNT Crescent Colony prides ourselves on maintaining our diversity, because with it we are able to meet the needs of all members. Active Participation and Leadership Being a new and diverse fraternity on campus, we are open to new ideas. This means there is a special opportunity to directly impact the group and to define the fraternity experience. There are also immediate leadership opportunities available, the ability to gain experience leading not just following. Brotherhood: Fellowship and Friendship We are working towards the same goal: a charter. The time spent building a fraternity brings us all closer together. Through the contact brotherhood provides, many friendships, life-long friendships will develop. Community Involvement We must always contribute to the community by our philanthopies and services outside of ourselves. One of our continual projects is the Adopt-a-School program, where each week we go to a local elementary school to help kids with reading and writing skills, along with mastery in speaking English. Through community involvement and service we gain an appreciation for the work we do and the experience we gain, with hopes that we will take from them when we graduate. What about my grades? Aren't they going to suffer because of all the partying? We are a social organization, so yes, there will be lots of activites and social functions that you may participate in, but we never force you to choose "partying" over your schoolwork. In addition to our goal of being a strong and prominent social fraternity, we are driven to be the academic leaders in the fraternity world. The primary obligation of being a Delt is academics. After all, that is why we are in school. We also don't believe that you should confront the rigors of coursework unprepared and unsupported. In order to provide you the necessary support and preparation, we have developed and approved an academic program that will ensure academic success if followed by members. The Colony has also begun incentive programs and awards for those members that succeed academically. If by some chance a member struggles with coursework, an enitre Colony committee is there with resources and help to prevent poor perfomance. With our Academic Program and the work of the Academic Affairs Committee, the Colony sees no reason why a member should not reach his academic potential for excellence. Therefore, those members that happen to fall short for a term will be given extra attention and even greater emphasis will be placed on academics to bring up their grades the following term. What's the deal with hazing? As stated in our bylaws, "There shall be no criteria of race, color, creed, or physical ability as qualifications for membership in UNT Crescent Colony. . . . There shall be no tolerance of practices of physical violence, hazing, and/or humiliation to a member’s or pledge’s sense of decency and self respect." How much money? Can I afford it? UNT Crescent Colony develops a budget based on what we want to do over the course of a semester or year. The budget is presented to all rushees, pledges, and actives with a list of tangibles that money will provide for. Our local dues are competitively priced with other UNT fraternities, and are the same for both pledges and actives, currently, $60.00 per month, or $300.00 per semester. There is also a discount given to those members that are able to pay for an entire semester's dues up-front. There are some costs associated with the International Fraternity, over which we have no direct control: one-time pledge dues, annual insurance fees and dues, and one-time initiation dues. |
