Programs for the Attainment of Goal GPA

"Our chapters' operations and programs reflect our commitment to excellence."

Study Hours
Every Delt is required to study a set number of hours in the library each week, dependent upon his previous term's GPA. Based upon his schedule, a brother may go to the library any time during the week. If the minimum study time is not attained during the week, that particular brother will be given a warning. If the time is not met the following week, the brother will stand, as the Director of Academic Affairs notifies the Chapter during his report of the member's failure to uphold his commitment. A complaint will be written to the Honor Board to decide the brother's fate.

For those brothers with a prior term GPA above a 3.0, a minimum of 3 hours per week is required. For those brothers with a prior term GPA between a 2.0 and 2.99, a minimum of 4 hours per week is required. For those brothers with a prior term GPA below a 2.0, a minimum of 5 hours per week is required. Pledges are required to study a minimum of 4 hours per week, regardless of their prior term GPA.

Operation Delta Storm
No less than two Saturdays each month, the Chapter shall "storm" the library from the hours of 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. This program will promote the positive habit of studying each weekend. This program may be used to fulfill one's study hours requirement. When taken seriously, a committed Delt will find this time invaluable to the achievement of his goal GPA. The requirements of Operation Delta Storm are as follows. A Delt must be studying something from his current coursework and wearing either a Delta Tau Delta related T-shirt or his badge.

Seeing the need to have balance, a Delt brotherhood activity shall be held at the end of each "storm" session. The activities will be planned on a voluntary basis for each Delta Storm. Only those who participate in Operation Delta Storm shall be allowed to join in the brotherhood activity. Active members with a prior term GPA less than 2.25 and all pledges are required to attend at least one Delta Storm per month. Participation is encouraged and open to all Delts.

Delt Study Buddy System
Each Delt shall be paired with another brother in accordance with the Academic Affairs Committee. Each pair of "buddies" shall meet no less than four hours each week to study together. (Note: This time may be used in conjunction with that of the Study Hours and Delta Storm programs.) Time and location are up to the brothers' discretion. In order to make the most of a study session, it is important to meet at appropriate times and locations. This system will promote budgeting study time each week (aside: Let's face it; if you're not studying more than four hours a week, then it will be near impossible to attain your goal GPA) while building brotherhood through supported study. At the end of a term, awards will be given to the pair of buddies that have attained the highest average GPA, with notification being given periodically throughout. Participation is mandated by being a Delt.

Delt 9-to-5 Club
Each member is committing himself to being up by 9 am, and, when not in class, not at Adopt-a-School, and not eating lunch, to be studying until 5 p.m. A member that holds a job and works during the day will have to be extra diligent and efficient with his study time. Inherent within the membership is the obligation to attend all classes and the responsibility to maintain a healthy sleeping schedule. However, a committed member will notice the amount of free time he has actually expand while his grades go up. Membership is open to all Delts, being required of all pledges and highly recommended for all actives.

Special Awards/Incentives for Brothers that Succeed Academically

Crescent Colony Honors
At the end of a term, those brothers that have achieved a GPA at or above a 2.75, shall receive Crescent Colony Honors (special recognition and a letter of commendation to their parents).

Delt Scholar Distinction
At the end of a term, those brothers that have achieved a GPA at or above a 3.0 shall receive Crescent Colony Honors and will have their name burned on to the Delt Scholars' Paddle.

Scholasticos Award
At the end of each term, those brothers that have achieved a GPA of 4.0 shall receive special recognition, in addition to Delt Scholar Distinction.

Lyceum Induction
Those brothers that graduate with a cumulative GPA at or above a 3.0 shall be eligible for induction into the "Lyceum" (based on the name of the school established by Aristotle in Athens, in 335, where scholars and philosophers convened). Other requirements to be taken into consideration include service to the Fraternity, the campus, and the community. All eligible brothers shall be voted upon by an induction board consisting of 3 alumni and 2 undergraduate brothers.

International Fraternity Awards/Incentives

Kershner Scholar Program
In addition to the awards and incentives that the Colony offers, the International Fraternity has its own, The Kershner Scholar Program.

Disincentives for Brothers that Perform Below a 2.5 GPA

For those brothers that perform below a 2.5 GPA, the Chapter shall impose certain restrictions so that these brothers can give proper attention to their coursework. These restrictions shall include the following: limited involvement in social and/or business aspects of the Chapter.

For those brothers that have current GPAs between a 2.25 and 2.49, they shall be restricted from attending one social event per term, playing in more than two regular-season games for any one intramural sport per term, but never restricted from a brotherhood function (unless otherwise prescribed, such as necessary participation in Operation Delta Storm). It is recommended that these brothers not hold an executive office with the Chapter.

For those brothers that have below a 2.25 current GPA, but are still in good standing with the University (at or above a 2.0 cumulative GPA), they shall be restricted from attending two social events per term, playing in more than one intramural sport per term, but never restricted from a brotherhood function (unless otherwise prescribed, such as necessary participation in Operation Delta Storm). It is recommended that these brothers not hold a committee chair position. These brothers are not allowed to hold an executive office.

For those brothers that are on academic probation with the University (below a 2.0 cumulative GPA), they shall be restricted from attending all organized social events. THese brothers are restricted from holding an executive office or comittee chair position. However, they are allowed to vote and attend weekly Chapter meetings. They are on grounds for suspension by the University and the Fraternity. Therefore, they should utilize as many resources as possible to improve themselves academically.

For those brothers that are on academic suspension from the University (failure to meet terms of probation), they shall be restricted from ALL Chapter functions, including weekly Chapter meetings and voting.
