A Real Answer to A real Prayer
When I graduated from high school I was at the culmination of a very
significant part of my life. It was the end of a period that can only be
lived once, from which memories will always remain, and can never be
changed. I have to say that as I reflected on the years that had passed,
there were surprisingly few memories that I was happy about. I don’t
want to sound negative or convey a depressing tone, it’s just that I
hadn’t accomplished anything very significant, and it seemed I’d made
more mistakes than positive imprints on that part of my life.
I knew that something had been missing all along, and was sure that it
was my knowledge and experience of God.
As I was preparing to move out of my mom’s house and begin the next
chapter of my life in an entirely new environment, UNT, I knew I was
looking for more than just simply a sense of newfound personal freedom.
I wanted to find a way to keep my future from looking like my past.
As I sat on my bed in my room I prayed,
“God, I know without a doubt that you are out there, and I am sure you
are doing something. I want to know you, and I want to be involved in
what you are doing. I am tired of trying to depend on my own concepts of
spirituality, and I don’t want to live the rest of my life in vain”.
When I began meeting with Christian Students on campus in bible studies,
I began to see everything in an entirely new light. I was hearing,
seeing, and experiencing things I had never heard of before, and it all
came out of the fellowship with the other students based on what we were
enjoying in the Bible. I am still so amazed at how much is in the Bible
that I never knew about or ever heard before, and these amazing things
have become the fundamental substance of my Christian life! I began to
see that God had answered my prayer in such a strong way. In the
Christian life we need Jesus Christ, other Christians, and the Bible.
Christian Students is a real and practical way to have these fundamental
elements of the Christian life while keeping in balance the
responsibilities of a college student. I enjoyed meeting with Christian
Students in prayer and fellowship in the mornings, during lunch, and
even in the evenings in the homes of UNT alumni who are still very
active with Christian Students. I have to say that Christian Students
was the gateway to what my life is now today.
I have now graduated from UNT and have my own family and a job, but I
know that I have formed relationships with other believers that will
undoubtedly last the rest of my life.
The Word of God is so full of life and light, and it is only with other
seekers of Christ that we can together with Jesus make what we find in
His Word into
a reality in our lives!
I know that I am on the right path, and I am so excited about my
destination! Let us all walk together as we enjoy God and praise Jesus
for all that He has done and is doing for us!
