The Capoeira Club at UNT
We are university students and friends who have been fortunate to discover Capoeira, and want to meet in order to practice and play for pleasure or for supporting the general community of Capoeiristas.
For the Spring Semester 2007, we are meeting at the Student Rec Center, either in Aerobics Studio A or outside in the backyard (weather permitting)
Saturday & Sunday 2-4, Wednesday 9.30pm
Capoeira has evolved from the streets of Brazil into a sport popular worldwide, with many internationally affiliated schools offering formal instruction.
Its earlier origins are undeniably from the earliest African presence in the northeastern states such as Bahia, where under the extreme labor arrangements of plantation work, it served as a recreation—even resistance from slavery.
