About Beta Alpha Psi:
Our Organization
Beta Alpha Psi is the international honorary organization for financial information students and professionals. This includes the areas of accounting, finance, and information systems. Only colleges that are members of the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business may host chapters of Beta Alpha Psi. Beta Alpha Psi was founded in 1919. By 2011, there will be 289 chapters on college and university campuses with over 300,000 members initiated since Beta Alpha Psi's formation.
Professional Firms and companies are familiar with Beta Alpha Psi and its activities. They are favorably inclined towards candidates for employment who hold membership in the organization and those who have taken an active part in chapter activities. It is understood that Beta Alpha Psi represents excellence and that its activities are designed to supplement a student's education.
Our Chapter
The chapter at the University of North Texas was established in 1962 and we have continued to have a strong presence in the College of Business since our inception. Our Chapter is mainly composed of those students who are accounting majors. This past year, our membership increased by thirty percent, with over fifty students attending each meeting.
All chapters are evaluated annually on their service to members, campus, community, and profession. Beta Pi has received the Distinguished or Superior Chapter recognitions every year for the past few years. In order to be a Distinguished or Superior Chapter, our members and candidates must actively participate in chapter meetings and events. Being a Distinguished or Superior Chapter is a national recognition within Beta Alpha Psi.
Membership
Membership in Beta Alpha Psi includes those persons of good moral character who have achieved scholastic and/or professional excellence in the fields of accounting, finance, or information systems, who have been initiated by an existing chapter and who remain in good standing.
Our Emblem
The emblem of Beta Alpha Psi denotes the promise of careers for financial information professionals. The rising sun signifies these professional positions as rising ever higher among economic activities. The crossed keys symbolize knowledge as a means of opening the doors of the financial world. The letters Beta, Alpha, and Psi denote scholarship, social responsibility, and practicality, respectively.
