About the ASPS

The largest society for the preservation of albino squirrels in the world!

Coolness

We have been featured on Channel 11 CBS News (the story was picked up by affiliate stations across the country, watch it here), the NT Daily, Denton Record Chronicle, Ft. Worth Star Telegram, Dallas Morning News, Chicago Tribune, and the Chronicle of Higher Education.

We've also garnered our school a 4 out of 5 squirrels rating from Campus Squirrel Listings (www.gottshall.com/squirrels/campsq.htm), placing us above other schools such as Princeton and UCLA.

ASPS Creed

"I pledge to uphold the objects of the Albino Squirrel Preservation Society, to foster
compassion and goodwill towards albino squirrels, and to dedicate myself to the
protection of all squirrels, especially those that are albino."

History of the ASPS
For years, stories had told of a special squirrel living on campus. A squirrel different from the others. A squirrel lacking pigmentation. In effect, an albino squirrel. The type of squirrel that could bring good luck to any student who spotted it before an exam. After hearing of such stories, evidence was sought. On a sunny day in the spring of 2002, T.J. Zambrano spotted and photographed this creature (see the very first picture here) and dedicated himself to raising awareness of this magnificent creature. The following fall, the Albino Squirrel Preservation Society at the University of North Texas was founded.

What We Do
The ASPS exists to raise awareness of our albino squirrel, both to students at North Texas and to others in general. We are on a mission to provide a safe environment for all squirrels, especially of the albino variety. We must protect them at whatever costs necessary, and educate others to their existence.
