- Get a team together to work at conference to get in free with discounted hotel rates
- Fundraising:
- T-shirts, bake sales
- Look into getting a booth for the Jazz Festival during the last week of April.
- Recruitment Party:
- Assistance is needed in bringing items such as sodas, ice, paper goods, and finger food
- Copies of National and Student Membership forms will be made available
- People will be on hand to speak about the conference
- Activities:
- Big events scheduled for the Spring semester might not be realistic since things are winding down
- Speaking in the Summer WebCT classes is a good way to recruit new members, especially those from out of town
- Sponsoring an in-house poster session contest with professors as judges would promote the Chapter as well as provide practice for the field
- Meeting after publication of First Monday, JASIST for an informal chat, inviting speakers
- Use this Summer to make preparations for the Fall job fair
- Putting Ideas into Action:
- See how many doctoral students want to go to ASIS Poster Sessions, get panels, promote the exposure to prospective employers
- Get enough masters and doctoral students together to make a presence at ASIS
- Get the Village started
- Get speakers into the school to talk about jobs, employment, and other issues.
- Find out about other departmental list-serves
- Flyers around campus would be most effective advertisement for the recruitment party
- Currently this organization has a mailbox in the SLIS office, but not in the Union.
- Other Ideas:
- PowerPoint presentations covering what is interesting and new in the field
- "Let's Talk" think groups, sponsor groups focused on ideas and research: "There isn't a lot of talking going on sometimes." The group would provide an opportunity to get up to date with what is happening in the field.
- Get more library people interested
- Next Meeting:
The next meeting is scheduled for April 16 from 5:30-6:30 Digital Imaging Lab
