NT-ASIST "Information" Meeting 1/16/2003
Notes:
I've set up a Yahoo discussion Group for NT-ASIST at:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ntasist/Assuming that we want to continue using that, I will send out
some invitations to the group to help them get into the Group.
For those of you who prefer "normal" listservs to Yahoo, you can subscribe
to unt-asis by sending an email addressed to: listserv@unt.edu with no
Subject and a message text of "subscribe unt-asis". You should get a
reply with further instructions for using the listserv. Let me know
if you have problems with it.
Each method of communication has advantages and disadvantages. We could
also use one for visitors/guests/announcements and one for officers/members.
Our current NT-ASIST web site is at: http://orgs.unt.edu/asis/nt-asis.html
Key points from the meeting:
- Dr. Shawne Miksa is our new advisor (SMiksa@unt.edu). She will work
with Dr. Schamber and Dr. Hastings for bank account access and advisor
file access.
- Bank account is a DACTU savings account with $426 and change,
with current signatories Dr. Hastings and Dr. Schamber
(do not know the account number). Dr. Miksa will replace
Dr. Schamber on the account.
(note: this account was closed later and a new one opened at Wells Fargo)
- Three people offered to help get things organized:
Diane Jenkins (dianej1@flash.net)
Lisa Galoviz (manolisa@sbcglobal.net) - chapter dues paid
Leigh Compton (nlc0008@unt.edu) - chapter dues paid, student ASIS&T mbr
.
Dr. O'Connor also attended.
A few others have indicated interest in joining, but could not make
this meeting.
- Next meeting to be Feb. 27, 5:30pm, ISB 218 (note: later rescheduled for 2/20/03)
We will work together on announcements to slis-l and the phd listservs,
to include requests for officer nominations. We should, if possible,
allow email voting. I suggest we hold off with submitting a UNT
student org update form until we have elected officers. I will continue
with Secretary/Treas duties for the time being, if no objections.
- I will be drafting an annual report for 2002 and a 2003 proposal for
the annual conference in October (Dr. Hastings will help with review).
Since they should be done quickly, I would appreciate Diane, Lisa, and
Leigh's assistance with the February announcement and election.
- We will need advisor signature on an update form for UNT
student organization administration. I will get a fresh
copy of the form for signature. We will need officer names
for it, so it might be best to wait until after the election
to turn it in.
- I have a copy of the ASIS&T Student Chapter Handbook downloaded
to the zip disk. It is linked from the ASIS&T Chapters web page.
Among other things, it recommends advisor responsibilities,
format for annual report, and sample chapter constitution.
Our current constitution is almost identical to the sample, but
needs a re-write, in my opinion.
My thanks to everyone for their contributions.
