Allen Tyrone Johnson
Allen Tyrone Johnson became a Baha'i in 1991 in Los Angeles, California. In Altadena, he initially learned of Baha'u'llah's teachings regarding equality of women and men, unity of all people, and the many other principles of the Baha'i Faith. He believed that Baha'u'llah was who He said He was, the Promised Messenger for the modern age, who had been sent by God to advance mankind spiritually into one human family.
Early in life Allen learned that he had a range of natural abilities. Over the years he has been singing, playing guitar, trombone and piano, and dancing. He grew up listening to the Motown sound and now writes and sings what he calls, "wholesome Urban music." He is currently putting some of the words and prayers of Baha'u'llah to music.
Throughout 2003 he traveled in the southern and eastern half of the U.S., visiting many Baha'i communities to lead musical devotional meetings. He plays guitar and sings the "Long Healing Prayer" which is one of Baha'u'llah's most beautiful prayers, a prayer for healing, and of devotion to and praise of God. Allen visited Denton and the UNT campus in January 2003, and conducted several devotional meetings here.
He recently decided to continue his travels, and will spend the next year or so, traveling throughout the western and then the central states performing this prayer beloved by Baha'is all over the world. He has also recorded the "Long Healing Prayer" on CD; it is available for purchase by visiting his website at www.projectmelody.com.
